--I am thinking about buying a google home mini. I was wondering if it was compatible with Apple Music. (For example, will I be able to say, ok google, play chill playlist.) Will it start playing or do I have to play it manually from my iPhone.
-- I really want a Google Home, but my music subscription of choice is Apple Music, so I'm really hoping it can stream from there. Can it?
Similar to Amazon Echo, Google Home -- a smart speaker based around voice developed by Google, gets increasingly impressive sales numbers. It is supposed to be the central hub for all your connected devices. With Google Home, users can speak voice commands to control more than 1,000 smart home devices to stream music, play videos, or receive news updates. The Google Home starts you off with Google Play Music as the default music service but also works with Pandora's free service (in the US only), Spotify Free and Premium and YouTube Music. However, sadly, Apple Music is not included in the list.
So what if you have Apple Music subscription? How to stream Apple Music on Google Home? Don't worry; here we are going to show you two ways to play Apple Music songs on Google Home.
You can play music that's stored on your mobile device (phone or tablet) or computer on Google Home using Bluetooth. Here are the detailed steps.
Step 1 Pair your mobile device & Google Home
From Google Home app: Open the Google Home app, in the top right corner of the app Home screen, tap Devices . Find the device card for the Google Home you want to pair with Bluetooth. In the top right corner of the device card, tap the device card menu > Settings > Paired Bluetooth devices > Enable Pairing Mode.
From your mobile device's Bluetooth settings: On your mobile device's Home screen, tap Settings and then turn on Bluetooth. Then tap the name of the Google Home you'd like to pair.
Step 2 Connect your mobile device & Google Home
Open Bluetooth settings on your mobile device. Under “Available devices”, tap the Google Home you paired to your mobile device.
Step 3 Play your music
After you've paired your phone with the Google Home, it will work like other Bluetooth speakers. You can play audio from unsupported music streaming services, like Apple Music.
It's really not that hard to play Apple Music on Google Home via Bluetooth, but the functionality isn't as good as streaming Spotify music or Google Music on the Google Home. If you prefer to get all of the functionality while streaming Apple Music through Google Home or Google Home mini, then you cannot miss the second way -- importing Apple Music to Google Play Music.
